VRTours
(VRTour = Virtual Reality Tour; an interactive panoramic movie.)
The navigation buttons provide the functionality to pan left, pan right, pan up, pan down, zoom in and zoom out. The keyboard options for the same functionality are: ← (Left Arrow) = pan left, → (Right Arrow) = pan right, ↑ (Up Arrow) = pan up, ↓ (Down Arrow) = pan down, Shift = zoom In, Ctrl = zoom out (Note: for keyboard options to work, the viewer must first click on the VRTour with their mouse). The viewer can also position their mouse icon over the image, press the left mouse button, and drag the image in any direction.

Are you marketing a resource (e.g., property, golf course, jewelry store, hotel, Bed and Breakfast inn, etc.) that still images alone don't do justice to? Wouldn't it be better if your existing clientelle, potential customers, and envious competition could view an image that they can interact with as if standing within the image itself? In addition to still image photography I can create VRTours to add to your web site.

Successful Realtors have known how important quality still images and VRTours of their listings are for awhile now. An article in the New York Times makes some very good points... "In real estate, a picture can be worth more than a thousand words. Much, much more. When selling properties online, agents and Web designers say that the pictures buyers see of houses and apartments for sale are often the first - and sometimes the only - chance for a seller to make a good impression. Less-than-flattering pictures can turn buyers off and lead to lonely open houses."

"Eighty percent of people across the country who bought a new home last year used the Internet while house hunting, and they rated photographs as the most useful tool in their search, according to a survey of buyers and sellers by the National Association of Realtors. The survey also found that 24 percent of home buyers got their first glimpses of their new homes on the Web, up from a mere 2 percent in 1997."

"The Realtors' association survey found that when it comes to Web features that buyers considered “very useful,” 83 percent cited pictures, 81 percent cited detailed property information and 60 percent cited virtual tours."

Bottom line is that more and more people are relying on the internet to find what they need, and they are looking at the on-line images that you provide of your offerings. Those needs include real estate, vacation destinations, their next round of golf, office space to rent or lease, that romantic hotel room for their anniversary getaway, the perfect slope for skiing or snowboarding, etc. If your competition is providing better on-line images of their own offerings... you could be losing business to them.

Q. How do you create a VRTour?
A. I begin by taking photos, lots of photos! The image below is a compilation representing over 36 separate unedited photographs taken in a single room (using a panoramic imaging system that allows me to rotate my camera on an axis while taking photos in a 360 degree horizontal range, at 10 degree intervals => 36 images).

I then edit each image and combine them into a seamless panorama.

I use this panoramic image to create a Flash-based interactive panoramic movie... a VRTour.
